12:00 – With thousands of CN Rail workers on strike, industries across Canada and Saskatchewan are already feeling the sting as shipments are disrupted and a backlog begins to build. The Mining Association of Canada says the strike will cause “significant and damaging effects” across the industry, as it will affect not only shipments of mineral products but also shipments of fuel and other supplies to mine sites. Not only that, but the Mining Association is warning that a lengthy strike could result in “an untold number of layoffs across Canada [and] potential damage to the country’s reputation as a trading partner.” They’re calling on the government to take “any and all action necessary” to address the stoppage before it damages the economy. Pierre Gratton, president/CEO of the Mining Association of Canada, joins Gormley now to discuss the economic impacts the strike will have.
