The World Anti-Doping Agency is being tough on Russia but not tough enough in the eyes of many other athletes and other countries’ doping agencies.
The new sanctions will not allow major events to be held in Russia, nor will athletes brought into question from the doping scandals be allowed to compete.
And any athlete from Russia who is allowed to compete will not be able to do so under Russia’s flag; nor will they hear the national anthem. You may remember Olympic athletes from Russia in the 2018 Games. That is not going to happen anymore.
So, good enough?
No. Ban them. Don’t allow their athletes to compete until Russia adheres to the guidelines and is forthright completely to the doping scandal and complies with WADA’s regulations and investigation.
Until then, no athlete from Russia should be taking home gold, silver or bronze so Putin can glorify their accomplishments.
WADA is being tough but misses the podium on these latest sanctions.
