Two people are dead following a long police standoff at a Kindersley home.
According to a release from the Saskatchewan RCMP, a man and a woman were located deceased in the home Thursday around 3 p.m. No other people were located inside.
Shortly after 10 a.m., the Kindersley RCMP received reports of a gunshot from a home on the 1000 block of First Street West, according to a media release. One person fled the house and called police.
Officers were deployed immediately and set up a perimeter in the area, cutting off access to businesses and homes in the area. Schools were also placed in hold and secure, which allows students to move freely within the building but keeps everyone indoors.
Global Saskatoon reporter Kyle Benning told 650 CKOM the perimeter was lifted some time after tactical officers moved towards the home with shields up, which was followed by a loud bang and a retreat.
All traffic restrictions and blockades were lifted after the discovery of the bodies, which prompted the presence of a forensic investigation unit.
Kindersley residents can expect an increased police presence around the town as the major crimes unit continues the investigation. The RCMP said there isn’t a risk to public safety at this time.
