The man who nearly unseated Don Atchison is backing Kelley Moore.
Tom Wolf, who ran in the 2012 mayoral election, announced his endorsement of Moore at an event Monday afternoon.
“Kelley has one of the most impressive track records of experience and strong leadership that I’ve seen in anyone,” Wolf said. “I have never seen a candidate so efficient, yet so approachable.”
The endorsement could prove to be a huge boost for Moore’s campaign. The most recent poll (http://www.cjme.com/?s=three-way-race-emerges-saskatoon-mayor-poll) released by Mainstreet/Postmedia had her in third place at 22%, trailing Atchison by four points and Charlie Clark by one.
Wolf captured 47% of the vote in 2012, losing to Atchison by 3,404 votes.
His campaign pushed for changes to how Saskatoon approached work on roads and core infrastructure. Moore has criticized the City for dealing with road repairs “inefficiently” and has promised to do better.
She has also proposed a colour-coding system based on the degree of cost overrun a project is experiencing, saying this would ensure no confusion when a project is “going off the rails.”
“Can you imagine the quality of the decision-making with a professional city planner at the helm?” Wolf asked the crowd at Moore’s campaign office.
He also touted her lack of a political history as a strength.
“She doesn’t need to defend the past,” he said. “She can cast a fresh eye on the situation and evaluate what really needs to be done.”
