We were reminded of how football can take down boundaries like no other sport when watching Super Bowl LIV on Sunday.
There was a great moment on FOX, when 24-year-old Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes did an interview, side by side, with 61-year-old head coach Andy Reid as they shared a championship. Their admiration and respect for one another spilled onto the TV screen.
Mahomes was thrilled that Reid, with more than 200 NFL regular-season wins, finally earned a Super Bowl ring after two decades of coaching. Reid joked that he might stick around for a while longer with a young Patrick Mahomes in his corner. (Mahomes is the youngest-ever Super Bowl MVP, by the way.)
New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick has won three Super Bowl titles in his 60s. A few years ago, Tom Coughlin coached the New York Giants to a Super Bowl title at 65 years of age.
Football is a game of play-calling like no other game, with coaches and players having to act as one. To see Reid, who has been a head coach for nearly as long as Mahomes has been alive, get the love he did from his players was one of my highlights of Super Bowl LIV.
