Regina is expecting to be full to the brim on Grey Cup weekend in November with football fans from all over the country, but hotel rooms aren’t quite sold out yet.
According to Tracy Fahlman, CEO of the Regina Hotels Association, many of the rooms in the city just haven’t been released for booking yet.
As part of the bid for the event, hotels had to agree to hold rooms and help event organizers with their accommodations.
“At this time, there are a number of event accommodation requirements that we are still finalizing,” explained Fahlman.
However, she said they’ll be finished in the next few weeks and more rooms are expected to be released at that time.
Currently, the only rooms which come up in an online search for reservations are at one specific hotel and can range from $750 to $1,000 per night, depending on the website.
Fahlman said when more rooms are released, the prices will depend on the market at the time.
When it comes to online bookings, Fahlman said hotels probably haven’t sent their information for that time to the websites, so not all of the hotel inventory is listed. She encouraged people to call hotels directly to book.
However, when some hotels in Regina were called about availability during Grey Cup week, they said they didn’t have any rooms available and the entire Regina area was sold out.
