Saskatchewan’s politicians face off as the fall session of the legislature gets back in session Wednesday.
The government has been clear where it wants its focus.
Premier Brad Wall’s fight against a federally-imposed carbon tax will be debated. Also, the Minister for SGI has already hinted there will be legislative changes coming to curb drinking and driving rates in the province.
The session is also a chance for the official opposition to hold the government to account.
“Honesty matters. This is a government that wasn’t honest with Saskatchewan people and that is going to be a clear focus for our team,” NDP interim leader Trent Wotherspoon explained.
Wotherspoon argued there are a number of issues the government has let people down on. He cited the global transportation hub land deal, the potential sale of SaskTel and cuts to social assistance programs.
With no first quarter financial update released by the government, the province’s deficit will likely also be a topic of debate, although the government contends there will be more information provided on this file.
There is no Throne Speech so work begins on the first day back.
The session continues until Nov. 1.
