I’ve already seen this word thrown around too often heading into free agency.
Loyalty.
It’s a word that shouldn’t be thrown around when it comes to free agency.
Loyalty between team and player is nice and all, but no one is being loyal in a lengthy relationship. The reason players stick in one place isn’t out of loyalty. They are good enough the team still wants them and the players are in a place they enjoy.
Period.
That’s not loyalty.
We see it all the time when players get cut a day ahead of their bonus payment or don’t get re-signed.
The saying, ‘It’s a great game and a crappy business’ is the most accurate phrase to describe sports.
And business is what it is.
So if a player leaves or a team moves on from a long-time veteran, don’t bring up that one side should have been more loyal.
Each side knows what they signed up for.
The only time loyalty is shown in sports is by you, the fans.
