After Saskatchewan’s 19-14 loss to Montreal on Saturday, it was tough to pick out a Riders star, so I’ll go with Chris Jones. Jones said it best at game’s end.
“We didn’t play offensively, until 11 minutes to go in the game.” He called out his team for not picking up blitzes, putting the ball on the carpet and letting a rookie quarterback get outside of the pocket and make plays.
Some coaches would have tried to defend a team’s losing effort like that, but not Jones. There certainly didn’t appear to be 30,223 in the stands, but if that many bought a ticket, they could definitely argue that they deserved more. Jones should have won some fans, by siding with the fans.
Five game win streaks aren’t common place at any level of football. However, there was no excuse to lose like that to a team that had fewer wins. The coach and GM agrees.
