David Ortiz is the latest to go after Mike Fiers for his role in blowing the whistle on the Houston Astros’ sign-stealing.
Fiers was a member of the team but didn’t say anything until he was no longer an Astro. He told reporters more than a year after being traded from Houston that the Astros were using a camera in centre field to steal signs.
That kicked off the investigation by Major League Baseball.
Ortiz says Fiers is a snitch for calling out a former team and it would have been much more respectful if he’d done the whistleblowing while a member of the Astros.
Ortiz isn’t the only one who thinks that. Pedro Martinez is another who criticized the timing.
Sorry, but Fiers did the right thing. Sure, he didn’t do it at the time but better late than never. What he did was disclose cheaters and protect the integrity of the game.
That’s not being a snitch and I think anyone who calls him one may have some skeletons in their own teams’ closets they would hate to have exposed. Because we all know — the Astros weren’t the only ones stealing signs.
