A Regina teenager who pointed a CO2-powered BB gun at two other boys has been granted a conditional discharge by a Regina youth court judge, provided that the 14-year-old boy meets several probationary terms over the next 18 months.
The boy, who can’t be identified due to provisions in the youth criminal justice act, appeared in youth court Monday morning wearing black jeans, a faded black hoodie and black-and-white checkered slip-on shoes.
Court heard that the gun incident happened on Jan. 8, near Rochdale Boulevard in the parking lot of Panago Pizza.
The boy, a student at Winston Knoll high school, agreed to the facts presented to the court.
He said he pointed the gun at his friend’s head, in what he thought was a joke.
He then pointed it at another boy, 16 years old, stating the elder boy had often bullied him over his apparent marijuana addiction.
The 14-year-old boy then returned the gun to his bag and walked away.
Through his defence lawyer, the boy told the judge that he understands the severity and harm of his actions, telling the court he’s interested in a future career in law enforcement or in hunting.
As part of his probation, the teen was given a curfew from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m., he must live at his current residence, see a court-ordered youth worker, can’t own any weapons and must undergo drug addiction treatment.
