Over 3,000 stuffed animals were tossed onto the ice.
Polling stations all over the city will be busy all day Wednesday as people in Regina cast their ballots.
Shortly after the polls opened, downtown people started trickling in and out.
Many people explained the biggest issues for them in this election:
“Downtown’s really important to me – infrastructure and downtown.”
“I want to feel confident that the city is being run well, in terms of the infrastructure, and the general business climate.”
“Condition of the roads for one thing, and housing, there’s too many homeless people in the city.”
“The public services are really not very good.”
“For downtown, I’d say the biggest thing is just trying to clean up a bit of the graffiti, make sure that it’s a safe place for workers during the day but also the residents.”
Everyone who spoke to 980 CJME said they got out to vote because it’s their duty.
“I own a condo so I thought I’d better at least come and voice my opinion.”
“We just feel it’s our duty to vote, and so we always vote.”
“I never miss a vote, I think it’s really important that we all vote. It’s amazing that we live in a country where we all have the ability to vote.”
“We have the right, it’s our city, and I think we need to make sure we have a say.”
The polls are open until 8 p.m.
