'One guy sold 2 tickets for 15-grand,' Saskatoon man in Chicago during World Series

A Saskatoon native is getting a first hand lesson on how expensive living in a World Series city can be.

“I could get a nosebleed seat for $4,000 if I wanted one tonight,” said Shane Jackson, who now lives in Chicago. The Cubs are hosting Cleveland Friday night in game 3 of the World Series. 

Jackson considers himself a baseball fan and has been to Chicago’s Wrigley Field in the past. But is likely not going to see the fall classic in person. 

“My best chance of going is if someone who is going with one of my friends drops dead,” Jackson said.

While getting in is a financial challenge for many in Chicago, it’s the same story outside. Many hotels have jacked up the prices, and a seat in a bar outside the stadium costs a pretty penny as well. Many are offering bleacher seats on the roof, across from Wrigley Field. 

“I got an email yesterday about a cancellation on the roof and they have four spots for $600 but when I read it again I realized it was $600 dollars each!” 

Jackson says he is likely staying far away from the game with many bars and restaurants charging around $250 just to get in the door. 

The World Series is in Chicago from Friday to Sunday, shifting back to Cleveland for games five and six if necessary.
