A group of Saskatoon firefighters forced to self-isolate this week are back on duty.
The four firefighters began isolation at Fire Station No. 4 on Faithfull Avenue after responding to a call where a patient went on to be tested for COVID-19.
Following 18-hours in self-isolation, and after consultation with the Saskatchewan Health Authority, the firefighters were able to begin self-monitoring Thursday afternoon.
It means they could return to duty while monitoring their symptoms and temperatures, a media release issued Saturday said.
They must continue to avoid crowded spaces and vulnerable people.
“As a front-line emergency service, we are committed to a high level of planning and preparedness to maintain continued response in proudly serving the residents and visitors of Saskatoon,” the release said.
During the self-isolation period, the fire station was closed to outside access and contingency plans were activated to maintain response coverage.
The station is now back in service.
