Calls for social distancing amid the COVID-19 pandemic have inspired one Saskatoon bakery to come up with a solution to get food to customers.
Nestor’s Bakery begins a delivery program on Tuesday.
They’ll send cookies, donuts, bread and more, directly to households.
Keith Jorgenson, the owner, told 650 CKOM he’s doing his part to help bring comfort to people who need to stay at home.
“We noticed people were worried and concerned, as well as the calls for social distancing… but it doesn’t mean people don’t want to eat and they don’t want comfort food,” he said.
“We can deliver to people at home who may either be quarantined or wanting to socially distance.”
His bakery usually sells most of its product to restaurants and schools, but he decided to make a shift to individual customers in light of COVID-19.
“If we can avoid having huge numbers of people congregating in either restaurants or grocery stores, that’s going to slow the spread of the virus.”
After announcing the new delivery program, orders quickly came in. He’s completely booked for both Tuesday and Wednesday.
