When Donald Trump first announced his candidacy, only one person told a New York City reporter that Trump could be president.
“Everyone else they laughed, they brushed me off, they called him very uncomplimentary names,” 1010WINS reporter John Montone said.
That changed when Montone was out Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning to where the two candidates had their parties.
He said the Trump supporters were more than eager to talk.
“One fellow, an ex-marine, said that what America did last night was become America again,” said Montone.
He also spoke to a woman who talked about building the wall and keeping out undocumented immigrants.
Montone then went to Hillary Clinton’s election night party.
“There were a number of them, especially young ladies … crying, telling me that they were broken-hearted. One of them said this is the work of uneducated, angry white men.”
One person Montone spoke to said she predicted what would happen. The Ohio woman travelled to New York City by train so she could be at the Clinton party.
“She saw abandoned factories, she saw junkyards – essentially hopelessness – and she started to think, oh my, maybe (Trump) will win.”

Donald Trump won the presidency by electoral college votes, but Hillary Clinton won the popular vote.
