City of Regina crews continued work Monday to repair a sinkhole that opened up on McCarthy Boulevard between Brunskill Place and Fourth Avenue on Friday night.
As a result, the city has closed southbound McCarthy between Fourth and Brunskill as well as one northbound lane on McCarthy from Brunskill to Fourth. Southbound McCarthy from Mikkelson Drive to Fourth is open to local traffic only.
The city said the sinkhole, which is approximately 10 feet wide and 15 feet deep, opened up Friday at about 6 p.m., after a 60-inch sewer line collapsed.
“The collapse of the sewer line does not affect the drinking water,” the city said in a media release. “Water lines run above sewer lines.”
Crews worked over the weekend to hook up temporary water for 11 homes and to set up a bypass pumping system for the affected sewer line. That pumping was to begin Monday morning and is to continue until the repair work is done.
The city estimated the repairs will be completed within a week.
