The Regina Police Service said Monday that seven people in the city have died due to drug overdoses since Jan. 1 and five other deaths are still under investigation.
In a media release, the police service said it has been made aware of 143 overdoses since the start of the year. Officers have responded to 85 of them and administered naloxone 24 times.
“The Regina Police Service continues to urge the public to be aware of the threat posed by street drugs; in particular, fentanyl,” the police release said. “Anyone who is an active user of illicit fentanyl or fentanyl analogs is in danger.”
Police continue to stress the importance of calling 911 in the event of a drug overdose.
Members of the public can get Naloxone kits if they are concerned about experiencing or witnessing a drug overdose. Information about the kits is available here.
Anyone with information about the overdoses is asked to call the Regina Police Service at 306-777-6500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
