Tuesday was a good day — a day we needed.
The Rawlco Radio Day of Caring for the Saskatoon and Regina food banks showed once again the spirit of Saskatchewan.
Usually in a time of crisis, we can come together. The floods in ’74 had people filling sandbags, hand in hand, helping people and their communities. Flooding again more recently had similar communities banding together.
In tragedy, we see Saskatchewan communities just show up and hold each other or give a shoulder to cry on.
And that’s what is making COVID-19 such a struggle. We’re not supposed to be within two metres of each other or in groups larger than 10, let alone at a community hall raising money at a concert or steak night.
But Tuesday was a day where Saskatchewan continued to shine. More than $1.6 million was raised. When we saw health-care workers stepping up to donate and help — though they are facing such a tough task in the days, weeks and months ahead — that was the most uplifting of it all.
Saskatchewanians never surprise me when things need to get done, but you always inspire.
