The Regina Police Service offered more information Tuesday about the woman who was given a ticket for failing to comply with the public health order relating to COVID-19.
In a media release, police said the 23-year-old woman who received the $2,800 ticket had tested positive for COVID-19.
“This information is being released after discussion between the Regina Police Service and Saskatchewan Public Health,” the release read.
“Typically, a police service would not give out health information, but it has been deemed necessary to confirm the individual’s COVID-19-positive status in this case, given the circumstances we all face with the COVID-19 pandemic.”
On Monday, police said the woman had been ticketed for not self-isolating for 14 days.
People who are a confirmed case of COVID-19 or who have been identified by a medical health officer as having close contact with a person with the virus are required by law to self-isolate. People who have travelled internationally also are required to self-quarantine for two weeks after returning to Saskatchewan.
The police didn’t say in their initial media release which of those categories applied to the woman.
It was the first ticket handed out by the Regina Police Service for a violation of the public health order.
Anyone who wants to report an alleged violation of the public health order can call 1-855-559-5502. Public health will do the investigation, with assistance from police if required.
