Saskatoon City Hospital has been put under a boil water advisory following quality issues in the building late Monday night.
The order means no tap water is to be consumed within the building. Water quality testing is underway and results are expected soon.
“At this point, we do not know what caused the water quality issue,” said Dr. Johnmark Opondo, deputy medical health officer, in a news release Tuesday.
“We have taken all the necessary safety precautions to protect our patients and our staff while we await the results of the water quality testing.”
Emergency supplies, including bottled water, have been distributed to all units and departments for patients and staff.
Bottled water available for drinking and food preparation. The order does not affect toilet use or hand washing.
Saskatoon City Hospital is open for all non-invasive procedures and appointments including the emergency department.
As a result of the order, 39 surgeries scheduled for Tuesday have been postponed. Additional procedures, including endoscopies, have also postponed until further notice.
The region said it’s calling all patients affected by the order; however, some people didn’t have contact numbers available.
The hospital is asking those who are unsure if their scheduled procedure is still taking place to call 306-655-8231 to confirm.
A decision on whether Wednesday’s scheduled surgeries will happen will be made later today.
