The community of La Loche has seen it’s first positive test for COVID-19.
On Wednesday the local government’s Facebook page announced the case and provided some information.
“Contact tracing is now underway in the community of la Loche,” the post read. “This means that we have a team that is tracking those who have been in close contact with someone who has tested positive in order to make them aware of their increased risk of exposure.”
La Loche Mayor Robert St. Pierre told 650 CKOM the identity of the person would not be released.
“It’s just in the beginning stages, just tested positive,” he said. “So as things progress or develop we’ll keep the community informed.”
The positive case is not travel-related, according to St. Pierre, who said they’re taking it in stride.
“We’re concerned, of course, but the health professionals did what they needed to do, they started their tracing and tracking. We’ve got the person identified and self-isolating–it’s being contained,” he explained.
The Facebook post urges people to continue doing their part to avoid exposure to COVID-19.
“The best way to keep yourself and your loved ones safe is to stay at home unless you need to go out for essentials like groceries, medicine or to seek medical treatment,” it said.
