The COVID-19 pandemic has been the cause of additional stress for many people, whether it be from fear of catching the virus, having to self-isolate or financial worries because of a lost job or a layoff.
In a release, the Saskatoon branch of the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) said it has set up a dedicated wellness support line.
Faith Bodnar, the executive director of CMHA Saskatoon, says the support line is for anyone who needs to talk about how they are doing during the pandemic.
“We want to provide as many safe ways as we can for people to connect with us during this difficult time. It’s essential that everyone has access to information, counselling and someone to listen to their concerns and worries. And our services continue to be free for anyone needing them.” said Bodnar.
“We know the impacts of the pandemic will increase with time and will last long after the virus has run its course.”
Referred to as the Echo Pandemic, the mental health issues will increase and touch everyone, mirroring the curve of the virus but lasting much longer. It’s also expected that once restrictions are lifted, mental health issues will continue for some time.
Anyone who needs to reach out can call the wellness support line at 306-270-3648.
Bodnar said there are many other ways to connect as well, including by email, social media and the CMHA website.
