Hundreds of mourners gathered Thursday morning in Choiceland to remember the life of a girl killed in the small town last week.
Seven-year-old Nia Eastman was the subject of an Amber Alert Nov. 10 after her father didn’t drop her off at her mother’s house as planned.
Adam Eastman was found dead with self-inflicted wounds that morning. Hours later, Nia’s body was discovered in a Choiceland home by investigators.
The family requested mourners wear bright colours to the memorial service because Nia enjoyed wearing colourful things. The grade one student was described as a happy girl who enjoyed playing in puddles and wearing mismatched socks.

The most powerful moment of the ceremony was when Nia’s mother read a poem titled “If Tomorrow Never Comes.”
“If I knew it was the last time, I would have recorded everything so I could replay it day after day,” read Crystal McKinnon.
Parents and their children wept openly as the poem was read.
RCMP are in the final stages of the investigation. Since no charges will be laid, no further details will be released.
Choiceland is located around 100 kilometres east of Prince Albert.
