A PSA is starting to get some attention from the football community.
The hook is comparing young kids smoking to young kids playing tackle football.
It’s from a concussion prevention group that is getting what it wants: A conversation over concussions. Its members are not saying stop playing football per se, they’re saying play flag football and avoid minor tackle football.
And depending on who you talk to, the comparison to smoking is either accurate due to the health risk or a completely preposterous example to sensationalize questionable science on the impact of concussions in young people.
The only thing that really matters, though, is you — the parent who sometimes has to wake up early or stay up late to race for registration and save money for the sports.
Do you find concussions scaring you away from tackle football? Or if your child wants to do it, do you even think twice?
It’s something I’ve thought a lot about, but the fact rates of concussions are also high in hockey, soccer and baseball makes you wonder how much time you should worry about your kid playing any sport.
