Diefenbaker hill is one step closer to becoming a winter wonderland.
“Hopefully by next winter we can be operational,” said Rob Lett, a member of the Optimist Club of Saskatoon.
P. Machibroda Engineering launched a slope study Monday so the hill could become a destination for winter sports.
It’s one of the last things before construction of the winter and summer activity park, which has an endorsement from the City of Saskatoon.
“People we talked to are extremely excited,” Lett said.
“A lot of people can’t afford to go to Blackstrap or different places and this is another option.”
The park will have tubing lanes, snowboarding, skiing, sledding and terrain excursions.
The Optimist Club of Saskatoon is accepting online donations to help fund the project.
“We’re hopeful we will raise enough capital by the spring, so we can begin construction in the spring,” he said.
The club has a fundraiser with pro snowboarder Mark McMorris on Dec. 21 at LB Distillers in Saskatoon to raise money for the project.
