Last week was a busy one for the RCMP near Swift Current.
Four separate vehicle stops on the Trans-Canada Highway resulted in the seizure of cannabis, cannabis edibles, fentanyl, cocaine, methamphetamine and cash.
On May 11, a vehicle was stopped to check the driver’s sobriety. The man was found to have contraband tobacco and was arrested for being in possession of unstamped tobacco.
A search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of six pounds of cannabis and a small amount of unstamped tobacco.
A 46-year-old Regina man has been charged with possession of cannabis for the purpose of distribution. He will make his first court appearance in Swift Current in September
On May 13, a vehicle was stopped for speeding. The RCMP says a man had a large amount of Canadian currency and was subsequently arrested for being in possession of proceeds of crime.
A search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of 34 pounds of cannabis and approximately 1,500 packs of cannabis edibles as well as Canadian currency.
A 57-year-old man from Peterborough, Ont., has been charged with possession of cannabis for the purpose of distribution, distributing illicit cannabis and possession of proceeds of crime under $5,000.
He will make his first court appearance in Swift Current in September.
Later that afternoon, a vehicle was stopped to check for a valid driver’s licence. The two occupants were found to be in possession of proceeds of crime, the RCMP said in a media release.
A vehicle search resulted in the seizure of 8.5 pounds of cannabis edibles and a large amount of Canadian currency.
A 53-year-old man from Dunmore, Alta., and a 54-year-old man from Ralston, Alta., were both charged with possession of cannabis for the purpose of distribution, distributing illicit cannabis and possession of proceeds of crime over $5,000. Both will make their first court appearances in Swift Current in September.
On May 14 a vehicle was stopped for to check for a driver’s licence, vehicle registration and a driver sobriety test.
A man in the vehicle had court conditions, which included him submitting to a search by police.
The two occupants of the vehicle were detained for drug investigations and a search of the vehicle took place.
Ten grams of fentanyl, as well as quantities of cocaine and methamphetamine, were located in the vehicle.
A 38-year-old man from Regina and a 30-year-old woman from Regina were both charged with possession of cocaine, methamphetamine and fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking, trafficking in cocaine, methamphetamine and fentanyl as well as numerous weapons and property-related offences.
The man also faces five additional charges of failing to comply with an undertaking.
Both appeared in Swift Current Provincial Court via telephone and were remanded into custody to appear via telephone on May 25.
