Tigers outplay Blades in 8-2 victory

An injury plagued Saskatoon Blades side suffered another blow in an 8-2 home loss to the Medicine Hat Tigers on Saturday.

Braylon Shmyer (10,11) put the first of two goals on the night away in the opening two minutes of the first period to give the Blades a 1-0 lead. His second goal came after a pair of Tigers’ markers for an even 2-2 into the intermission.

From there, it was all Medicine Hat. The Tigers scored six straight goals to close out the game, led by a Max Gerlach hat-trick.

“They’re a pretty good team with a lot of skill against our young group,” Blades head coach Dean Brockman said of the visitors.

“We were hoping the win against Brandon was going to give them a little confidence, but this was a tough team.”

The Blades are up against it at this point of the season as the injury woes continue. The latest problem has leading scorer Mason McCarty missing the next eight to ten weeks with an injury. Saskatoon is already without star forward Cameron Hebig, who has not yet played this season.

Penalties also caused problems for Saskatoon, Medicine Hat scored three times on the powerplay.

Brock Hamm and Logan Flodell split the loss in goal as the Blades were outshot 43-24 in the contest.

The Blades get back in action Wednesday, Nov. 30 in Red Deer.
