Drew Brees is wrong, but does he deserve to be the most hated man in America? The New Orleans Saints’ star quarterback was asked about what he would think if there were further protests in the NFL during the national anthem.
He spoke passionately that he doesn’t support any disrespect to the anthem or the flag and his grandfathers fought in the war and he gets emotional about the anthem and the flag and blah blah blah …
It wasn’t a good look, but at least he didn’t call them sons of bitches like President Donald Trump did four years ago.
Brees’ fellow NFL players have taken to social media blasting the quarterback.
But I don’t believe that’s the way forward. Brees needs the same players like Malcolm Jenkins or Ed Reed who blasted him to reach out and have a frank, honest conversation, to explain to him why his opinion on the protests during the anthem is damaging and hurtful.
Shaming him to change his mind is a bad play.
Because Drew Brees, I would wager, is a lot more willing to listen to reason than the guy in the White House.
