Three people are facing charges after an incident in Regina on Sunday night that started with an alleged hit and run.
According to the Regina Police Service, officers responded at about 8:20 p.m., to a report of a collision in the area of the 3100 block of Lakeshore Drive. They were told a vehicle involved in the crash had left the scene.
While police searched for the vehicle, they received a call of a suspected impaired driver in the 1300 block of Broadway Avenue. Reports suggested it was the same vehicle that had been involved in the collision on Lakeshore Drive.
After finding the vehicle, officers tried to stop it in the area of Victoria Avenue and Arcola Street. The vehicle took off and was followed to College Avenue and Osler Street, where four people jumped out and ran.
Patrol officers and members of the canine unit caught up to the four passengers. Two were released without charges, while a 19-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman were arrested after being found to be in possession of bear spray and a machete, respectively.
They both subsequently were charged with possession of a weapon for a purpose dangerous to the public peace and breaching probation.
Meanwhile, the vehicle kept going until it hit two others and a tree in the area of the 2100 block of Elphinstone Street. The driver tried to run, but was tracked down by a canine team.
The 23-year-old man was taken to hospital for treatment of a dog bite. He later was charged with three counts of hit and run and one each of operating a conveyance dangerous to the public and refusing to comply with a demand.
The men appeared in court Monday. The woman was released with a court date of Aug. 20.
