The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) is lifting the veil of privacy to show how COVID-19 tests are conducted to try to decrease stigma.
With help from SHA employees and medical professionals, the authority conducted a test on camera and released several photos as a step-by-step reference of what the process entails.
A health-care worker meets patients referred to the test centres in the parking lot to provide masks and give instructions.
Patients wait inside their vehicles until a worker escorts them inside.
Once inside, patients sanitize their hands and go to a test room to review health information.
A nurse performs a nasal or throat swab then places samples in specimen containers and a sterile bag to send away for processing.
Before exiting the test room, patients sanitize their hands again and ensure a face mask is on properly.
Nurses thoroughly clean rooms following tests, targeting high touch surfaces.
