The COVID-19 pandemic has forced a lot to change, including pride festivities typically scheduled in June.
In Saskatoon, the pride parade was cancelled with other events moving online.
To show their support during pride month one Saskatoon Advanced-Care Paramedic turned to a local company, Imagine That Media, to create colourful patches.
“They were able to have a really quick turn around to get us some,” Carla Roy said.
She was inspired to get the patches, which are attached to the back of uniforms, after seeing Saskatoon police with something similar.
“It’s just a nice way to show our support during pride month (June),” Roy said.
It took less than two weeks from contacting Imagine That Media to getting the patches, according to Roy.
“We had a really big uptake with our staff here and probably if they had more time to look at and answer my email I think we would have had more,” Roy explained. “I feel like I’ll probably have another order before next June.”
While paramedics don’t have much leeway when it comes to the uniform Roy said they do some tweaks to support other groups and causes like military veterans and cancer awareness.
