Spray pads opened in Regina on Monday and families wasted no time getting down to their local splash park.
The splash park near the Sandra Schmirler Leisure Centre was filled with families Tuesday enjoying the warm weather.
Bailey Lepage spent the day at the park with her three kids.
“We came here (Monday), too, so we’ve been here both days now,” Lepage said. “We’ll be here lots this summer. It’s a good place to park and has a nice big playground, too.”
Lepage’s sons could be seen running from the spray pad to the playground swings and back again, playing and cooling off from the hot sun.
“It’s perfect and I’m glad it opened in time to get out and enjoy it. The kids love it,” Lepage said. “It feels nice to get out when it’s nice out.”
Judy Pelletier agreed. She was visiting the spray pad with her two kids, Hailie and Christian.
“They were raring to go at 7 this morning,” Pelletier said. “We phoned the city and they said (the pads) were already open so we got here fast.”
Pelletier said they have been waiting since the winter for the return of spray pads. With the parks’ opening delayed due to COVID-19 restrictions, the kids were especially excited to finally enjoy the hot weather at the park.
“We’re here every year, a couple times a week,” Pelletier said.
Kids Bennett, Beckham, Kennedy, Liam, Ava and Lily were thrilled to be enjoying the water with their friends.
Beckham said he enjoyed going into the castle at the playground, while Kennedy said she preferred to stay in the spray pad and go down the slide.
“It’s always so hot and I need to cool off,” Kennedy said.
“There’s water buckets and … the water dumps on you,” Liam said, explaining his favourite part of the splash park.
Ava agreed with Liam.
“The dumping thing (is my favourite) because it’s nice when it’s hot out,” Ava said.
The reopening of the spray pads, Lepage said, is perfect for families to have a chance to cool off this summer.
“Get some fresh air, get some sunshine and we pack our lunch so we can just park for the day,” Lepage said.
