For the first time in more than a month, Saskatchewan has more than 100 active COVID-19 cases.
The provincial government announced Wednesday there were four new cases, including three residents who were tested in the province and one Saskatchewan resident who tested positive in another province.
Two of the new cases live in the far north, while one resides in the north and one lives in the south.
Saskatchewan’s total number of cases to date is now 757.
There was one new recovery, increasing that total so far to 643. To date, 13 residents of the province have died due to complications from the virus.
There are now 101 active cases in Saskatchewan. It’s the first time that number has been in triple digits since May 21, when there were 106 active cases. The number dropped as low as 16 on June 7 before rising to its current level.
The number of active cases comprises 55 in the far north, 35 in the south, nine in Saskatoon and two in the north. Neither Regina nor the central region has an active case.
Four people — two in the south and two in Saskatoon — are receiving inpatient care in hospital. There is one person in intensive care in the south.
Of the total number of cases, 456 are community contacts, 157 are travellers, 100 don’t have any known exposures, and 44 are being investigated by local public health.
To date, 55 health-care workers in the province have contracted the virus.
There have been 314 cases in the far north, 185 from the Saskatoon area, 112 in the north, 80 from the Regina area, 54 in the south and 12 from the central region.
In terms of ages, 260 cases have been in the 20-to-39 range, 239 have been between the ages of 40 and 59, 130 have been in the 60-to-79 range, 107 have involved people 19 and under, and 21 have been people 80 and over.
The 630 tests performed in the province Tuesday increased the total in Saskatchewan to date to 61,856.
The provincial government didn’t hold a media conference Wednesday to discuss the numbers.
