For more than an hour tornado warnings persisted in parts of south-central Saskatchewan Friday night.
For most of the time they were in the Assiniboia, Gravelbourg and Coronach areas but also stretched into the Moose Jaw, Pense, Central Butte and Craik regions for a while as well.
The tornado warnings around Moose Jaw were ended by 7:30 p.m. and the warnings in the Assiniboia areas were ended before 8 p.m.
The warnings had said meteorologists were tracking a severe thunderstorm that could produce a tornado. Damaging winds, large hail and intense rain were also possible. Environment Canada warned people to take cover immediately if threatening weather approached.
Severe thunderstorm warnings and watches for south-central areas of the province, including the City of Regina, Fort Qu’Appelle and Weyburn areas persisted later into the night.
Environment Canada said conditions were favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that could produce strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain.
