The Regina Police Service has charged a 22-year-old man in connection with a series of break-ins and thefts that have occurred in the city since July 9.
In a media release Monday, police said a number of incidents were “found to have similarities.” That led to the man’s arrest.
The first incident occurred July 9 between 2 a.m. and 4 a.m., when a business in the 100 block of East Victoria Avenue was broken into. Police said an unknown suspect broke a glass door at the side of the building, entered the business and stole a cash drawer, some electronic equipment and a donation jar. Investigators identified a suspect, but couldn’t find him.
Just before 10 p.m. on July 11, a man walked into a convenience store and stole a basket full of food.
The next day, a business in the 300 block of Albert Street was broken into just before 5 a.m. Again, the glass front door of the business was smashed, after which the suspect grabbed cash trays and took off.
On Wednesday at about 8 a.m., the front door of a business in the 500 block of Albert Street was smashed out. There was some other damage inside the building, but police say nothing was taken.
Finally, on Sunday at about 7 a.m., a business in the 2700 block of Avonhurst Drive was hit. The suspect smashed a glass door with a large rock, entered the business and took electronic equipment. The tray of a cash register was found at the rear of the business.
Officers tracked down the suspect and arrested him Sunday. He was charged with four counts of breaking and entering and committing an indictable offence, and one each of shoplifting under $5,000 and trafficking in property obtained by crime over $5,000.
He made his first court appearance Monday.
