After other victims came forward, more charges have been laid against a man from Ile-a-la-Crosse already accused of forcible confinement.
Aaron Gardiner, 42, initially was arrested in April after a girl was held against her will for four days in a cabin near the town. The girl was rescued by the RCMP with the assistance of the Canadian Armed Forces.
In a media release Tuesday, the RCMP said additional victims came forward after Gardiner was arrested. Their information prompted further investigation by police and now has led to additional charges.
The police said the charges “span multiple incidents and victims.”
The new charges include four counts of sexual assault, three counts of forcible confinement and one count each of uttering threats, assault, reckless discharge of a firearm, using a firearm in the commission of an offence, obstruction, and breach of an undertaking.
His next court appearance is set for Aug. 13 in Meadow Lake Provincial Court.
The RCMP investigation is continuing. Anyone with information is asked to call the Ile-a-la-Crosse RCMP at 1-306-833-6300, the Prince Albert General Investigation Section at 1-306-765-2105 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
