Fate of Sheree Fertuck still unknown after going missing one year ago

One year later, police and family members are still trying to figure out what happened to Sheree Fertuck.

The 51-year-old mother of three was last seen on Dec. 7, 2015 when she left her family farm near Kenaston, Sask. in a gravel truck. The truck was found abandoned at a nearby gravel pit, with Fertuck’s keys, jacket and cellphone still inside.

“It’s been difficult to say the least,” said Fertuck’s mother, Leann Sorotski. “Having her on my mind constantly, and trying to help out her kids as much as I can. It’s been a trying year.”

She added “every first” has been difficult for the family, from holidays to birthdays.

RCMP have investigated several leads over the past 12 months, but haven’t been able to locate Fertuck. In April, police announced they believed Fertuck to be the victim of a murder.

Several suspects have been investigated, including her ex-husband Gregory Fertuck.

In an effort to bring more information forward, the RCMP have taken a different approach to the search for Fertuck.

On the official Saskatchewan RCMP Facebook page, posts have been published starting with “Hello, my name is Sheree Fertuck.”

The posts go on to describe the events leading up to and immediately following her disappearance.

“Someone knows what happened to me,” both posts read.

Sorotski told 650 CKOM she appreciates the social media effort.

“They’re doing everything they can,” she said. “They’re doing their best to jog people’s memories and to make people realize how important it is for her to be found.”

She also has a message for her daughter.

“I miss you terribly. I wish that you’d come back home,” she said.

“We need you.”
