The City of Regina will be installing new metered parking stalls in the downtown.
On Sunday, crews will install 19 credit card-capable meters on both sides of Broad Street between Victoria Avenue and 13th Avenue.
In a news release, the city confirmed the parking spots will not be available during bus lane hours (7 to 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.), maintaining the flow of traffic and ensuring bus lanes are available for Regina Transit. The meters will be programmed to display a message when parking is not permitted during those times. It will refuse payment too.
The city added these new meters will help encourage turnover and make it more convenient for residents to visit the area, meeting the desire of downtown businesses.
It is expected to take one day to install the meters. Traffic is not expected to be disrupted during the installation, however, for everyone’s safety, drivers are reminded to slow down where crews are working.
