SaskEnergy is calling time on its cashier service in Regina and Saskatoon.
It is because of a continuous and steady decline in customer demand for the service.
Less than three per cent of customers pay their bill in person with the majority favouring on-line, telephone banking or pre-authorized withdrawal.
“How SaskEnergy customers pay natural gas bills has completely transformed thanks to technology and we need to keep pace with these changes,” explained Doug Kelln, SaskEnergy President and Chief Executive Officer.
“Our top corporate resource is our people, and by using our customer service resources more effectively, we will better serve our customers and continue to improve operational efficiency.”
This isn’t the first time the Crown has made this decision. In January 2014, nine cashier locations across Saskatchewan were shut down because of a drop in demand.
There will be no job losses as a result of this decision. Staff will simply be relocated to others areas within SaskEnergy.
Customers affected by this change can now pay their bill by mailing a cheque, in person at a bank or through a SaskEnergy pre-authorized payment.
The changes take effect Feb. 1, 2017.
