Christmas travellers home for the holidays

With Christmas fast approaching, people from across the country are coming home to be with family in Saskatchewan.

“We usually do a big dinner Christmas eve. We have lots of appetizers and drinks, light a fire,” said Devon Prosser, who was at John Diefenbaker Airport in Saskatoon on Thursday, anxiously awaiting relatives coming in from Toronto.

“It is just a whirlwind of extended family bliss,” said another women waiting for her daughter’s arrival on the same flight.|

So what’s on the agenda? Was anyone looking forward to any annual family traditions?

“One of the things we like doing is going for a tromp in the bush and lighting a fire,” said a man closely watching the arrival gate for relatives coming in from Winnipeg. 
 
Weather permitting of course.

First things first though, he said he’s very excited about seeing his young granddaughter for the first time in about six months.

He said she is just starting to walk.
 
Another man, who is originally from Saskatchewan, but now makes his home in the U.S. said he’s looking forward to ‘chowing down.’

“There is a firm tradition of suspending any dietary restrictions,” he said.
