The province wants people to remain alert and mindful of existing safety precautions with Thanksgiving approaching.
Saskatchewan’s Chief Medical Health Officer Dr. Saqib Shahab wants the province to remain safe after reporting 14 new COVID-19 cases in the province on Saturday.
“We have done well in Saskatchewan in keeping our COVID case numbers low and manageable, however, we need to remain vigilant,” Shahab said.
“While most cases are linked to known clusters we are also seeing an increase in cases with no known exposure implying an increase in community transmission. This has led to additional cases in the community. Everyone needs to continue doing their part by taking precautions to stop the spread of COVID-19.”
If a person is sick, the province is asking people to not only stay home but also refrain from shopping, attending social gatherings or and travelling unless it is essential.
“As we approach Thanksgiving weekend and look forward to connecting with loved ones, we all have a responsibility to keep our family, friends and community safe by being mindful of our social gathering plans,” Shahab said. “Thank you to the people of Saskatchewan for your effort.”
Saskatchewan’s total number of cases is at 1,954. In addition to the 14 new cases, 13 people recovered from COVID-19.
Three new cases are located in Saskatoon, four are in the central east, two are in Reginam, two are in the south central zone, two are in the south east zone and one is from the south west.
There are currently 19 active reported cases in Yorkton. Most cases are linked to known clusters within the community. The province is expecting more positive cases with the increased investigation, tracing and testing.
Of the 1,954 reported cases, 148 are considered active. A total of 1,782 people have recovered.
One person is in hospital at an intensive care unit in the central east zone.
