A 45-year-old Redvers man is facing child pornography charges after an investigation by the Saskatchewan Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit.
According to a media release from the ICE Unit, an investigation began in August into the online accessing of child pornography through file-sharing networks.
On Wednesday, members of the ICE Unit and officers from the Carlyle RCMP detachment executed a search warrant at a house in Redvers. Child pornography was found in the house and two computers and a cellphone were seized for forensic analysis.
Vernon J. Zelionka was arrested and charged with possession of child pornography and accessing child pornography.
He appeared before a justice of the peace in Carlyle and was released on a number of conditions. Zelionka is to return to court in Carlyle next Wednesday.
EDITOR’S NOTE: On June 28, 2023, Zelionka was sentenced to one year in jail on the charge of possession of child pornography. The charge of accessing child pornography was stayed.
