An all-Canadian division in the NHL?
Yes, please!
Las Vegas Golden Knights owner Bill Foley was giving us a lot of detail in an interview, like how the Jan. 1 startup date may not actually be achieved and that the NHL may not go until fans are in the stands.
But the best nugget of info was discussing a Canadian division in the NHL with the Canada-U.S. border restrictions likely still in place in the new year.
All seven teams in one division — could it mean an entirely Canadian vs. Canadian schedule? It’ll be like hockey day in Canada all season.
And to be honest, an all-Canadian division should be something the NHL seriously considers moving forward. It would almost guarantee a Canadian team in the Final Four every year.
It’s not completely foreign. Toronto used to be in the Campbell Conference with the four western Canadian NHL teams.
While it’s not likely to be permanent, I hope Bill Foley isn’t lying because he has me extremely excited for what could an odd and entertaining 2021 season.
