The first snowfall arrived in parts of Saskatchewan on Tuesday, and more could be on the way.
“I think that came as a shock for some people. The southwest had already had their first snowfall but for the rest, it kind of came as a shock,” Environment Canada’s Terri Lang said.
She said a system came through Regina overnight and into Tuesday morning, dropping about two centimetres of snow — just under an inch — with more falling throughout the day.
“It didn’t melt either because the temperatures were so close to freezing, so a lot of it is sticking around,” Lang said.
Another system is on the way and it could be bringing quite a bit of snow for the southwest corner of the province.
Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for the Shaunavon area for Wednesday. About 10 to 20 centimetres — between four and eight inches — could fall.
Advancing cold air from the north will combine with an upper disturbance to produce snow along the Cypress Hills on Wednesday.
As that system moves through, areas like Regina, Moose Jaw and southeastern portions of the province could get some snow as well.
And Lang said there’s a chance it could stick around for a bit.
“Average highs for this time of the year are around 9 C and overnight lows are closer to -2 or -3, so we’re way below average for this time of the year,” Lang said.
