Statistics Canada has released its annual Crime Severity Index (CSI) and Regina ranked third out of 35 census metropolitan areas in 2019.
Lethbridge finished first while Winnipeg was ranked second.
CSI is a measure of the seriousness of crimes committed rather than the frequency of it, factoring in conviction rates and lengths of sentences.
Regina scored 130, up one per cent from the year before.
Over the last decade, the city’s CSI has dropped 10 per cent.
In terms of crime rate, which is a measure of offences per 100,000 people, Regina had the third-highest of the census regions, at 9,827.
That marked a two per cent increase from 2018. In the last decade, the crime rate fell by eight per cent.
In an emailed statement, Regina police did not comment on the numbers.
A spokesperson wrote that the report came out later than the usual July release date.
“Because these are 2019 statistics, already 10 months out of date, we are providing the summary of Regina stats for your information; there’s little analysis we can offer that would be relevant 10 months after the fact.”
