People who got this year’s flu shot should probably be glad they did.
Simon Kapaj, Deputy medical health officer with the Saskatoon health region, said this year’s vaccine contained the H3N2 strain.
“Which is the same strain that is dominant this year, in circulation,” said Kapaj. “The individuals who have received the vaccine are more likely to be protected from this strain.”
Saskatoon is right in the middle of peak flu season, but the worst may soon be over.
“Last week and this week are likely to be our peak weeks of activity, however, we may still see some activity because of the return of students to schools and people returning to work,” Kapaj added.
Kapaj said flu numbers should start to come down by the end of next week.
