Regina is in store for a week of sunshine and pleasant temperatures with the mercury expected to reach double digits from Monday to Thursday.
It will be warm, but not record-breaking, according to Environment Canada’s senior climatologist David Phillips.
“It’s tough to break a record in Regina. We have records that go back to the 1800s, so you’d have to get to 20 degrees,” Phillips told the Greg Morgan Morning Show on Monday.
Phillips said that Wednesday’s high of 18 C will be 15 degrees warmer than normal. He finds it unusual for the warm spell to last this long.
“This is not just a one or two day wonder. And by Thursday of this week, 15 degrees, I mean that’s a whole week, you just don’t get that in November,” he said.
He noted that temperatures are recorded in the shade. Because the sun will be shining, Phillips said you can add a few degrees to what the thermometer says.
“So it is absolutely beyond sweater weather,” he said. “Absolutely gorgeous and no weather to get in the way. It’s just the wall the wall sunshine.”
People should enjoy it while it lasts, as Environment Canada is forecasting negative temperatures and snow over the weekend.
However, Phillips said spurts of mild weather can be expected over the winter.
“We’re going to see bouts of this. I think this back-and-forth is the way we see it,” he said.
“I mean eventually it’s going to get, solid and cold and the winter, will you know one week will follow another winter week but this is why this week is so positive and should have a smile on everybody’s face.”
