Cathedral Social Hall to replace Spadina Freehouse in spring

Saskatoon is getting a craft beer market in the spring.

It’s called the Cathedral Social Hall and it will replace the old Spadina Freehouse across from the Delta Bessborough.

“Almost all of our food is prepared fresh daily,” said Owner Mike Tate. “Nothing is prepackaged and will have perogies.” Regina has had a location for the past six months.

“Expect a lot of beer from local breweries across the province,” Tate said. “We want half of our taps dedicated to Sask. breweries, that never happened five to 10 years ago.” Tate said obviously there is a lot of competition in the restaurant industry, but it’s all about the customer experience.

“You have to make your guests want to come back,” he said. “That location is beautiful in the summer with the patio overlooking the river, so we feel strongly people will support us.” Tate said he doesn’t exactly know why Spadina Freehouse closed down.

“I don’t know their financial situation, but I think it’s like a few other places,” he said. “You get off to a great start and if you don’t continually update to trends, you will fall behind.”

Tate said a lot of excitement is building around his new beer market.

“Lot’s of excitement on Facebook and we just got the word out,” he said.
