Regina city council saw a major shakeup with half of the city’s wards getting a new face to represent them for the next four years.
Three incumbents lost their seats and two wards didn’t have incumbents running.
Cheryl Stadnichuk and incumbent Barbara Young are in a close race to represent Ward 1. Young was seeking her third term on council. Stadnichuk is leading with 52 per cent of the vote.
In Ward 2, Bob Hawkins is heading back for his third term on council. He defeated Stew Fettes, Bikramjit Singh and George Tsiklis. Hawkins was leading with 47 per cent of the vote.
Ward 3 saw Andrew Stevens earn a second term on council in a big way, earning 71 per cent of the vote. He defeated Elmer Eashappie, Nahida Chowdhuary and Tom Dacosta Sealy.
John Findura could become the longest-serving member on council, winning his fourth term. He defeated Rodney Francis, Reinier Van Everdink and Cameron Wilkes. He was leading with 51 per cent of the vote.
Dan LeBlanc is another new face on council, projected to win the race in Ward 6. He had 31 per cent of the vote. He defeated incumbent Joel Murray along with Shontell Hillcoff, Sohel Sheik, Norman Hoffert and Rod Kletchko.
Terina Shaw appears to have knocked off incumbent Sharron Bryce in Ward 7, having earned 31 per cent of the vote. Bryce had been the ward’s representative for five terms. Shaw also defeated John Gross, Mike Parisone and Shobna Radons.
In Ward 8, Shanon Zachidniak won the seat that was left vacant by Mike O’Donnell, who had chosen to not seek re-election. She earned 37 per cent of the vote, defeating Alex Tkach, Reid Hill, Wesley Stryletski and Carl Humphreys.
Jason Mancinelli is heading back to council for a second term representing Ward 9, earning 34 per cent of the vote. Mancinelli defeated Katherine Gagne, Jeff Soroka, Christopher Kaytor, Rob Humphries and Rod Williams.
Ward 10 was left without an incumbent because Jerry Flegel ran for mayor. Landon Mohl is set to win that seat, with 22 per cent of the vote. He defeated Adam Anderson, Shea Paisley, Carmen Hiebert, Mark Shmelinski, Charles Olsen, Laura Luby and Patrick Denis.
In Ward 4, Lori Bresciani ran unopposed and was acclaimed as its representative. It will be her second term.
The results of the election won’t be official until they are confirmed on Thursday.
